Using Web Technology Online or On Campus: The Hidden Rewards

Have you integrated the web into your on campus courses and your Distance Learning program yet? Come find out what two web veterans have to say about using online information, web communication technology , and publishing capabilities to enhance both classroom and virtual classroom experiences.

The presentation will cover:

• Retention and the online option
• Doing research and critical thinking on the web
• Taking charge of your own learning process
• Community building in the online classroom
• Publishing and a new sense of self and audience

Using the web, we will

• visit useful and questionable online research resources
• demonstrate real time technologies: chats and shared white boards
• explain the value of putting students' work online
• demonstrate a free automatic student homepage builder

Participants will take with them a selection of useful sites, an appreciation of the not-so-obvious benefits of using the web for both classroom based and distance education and free software for publishing and interacting online.

The Presentation

Susan Adrian, Ph.D., Mission College's first webmaster and Internet instructor, spearheads Mission College's online teaching and learning efforts. Last semester she designed and created an interactive, online learning environment for Mission College and is currently using this technology to teach two courses online. She has been teaching online for 4 years and does Internet training and consulting for educational institutions interested in learning and teaching on the web. This is her third appearance at an TechEd Conference.
