Final Exam Samples

ESL Pronunciation/Listening/Speaking

Four audio samples of final pronunciation exams are given, representing grades A, B, C, and D. The listening exam is separate from the pronunciation exam.

The pronunciation segment of the final exam consisted of ten (10) dialogs and three (3) excerpts from passages in one of the textbooks. The students had had intensive practice with these passages, in class, on videotape and audiotape, and as recorded homework assignments. The dialogs had not been studied before the final exam. They comprised elements of pronunciation that had been studied in other forms in class, lab and for homework:

Students' spoken responses were evaluated holistically on overall comprehensibility, fluency and accuracy, for a maximum of 100 points.
