Elicited were14 responses to the examiner's questions, 3 questions about a picture and 3 responses to the respective student-generated questions.

Students were given 2 points for a response that was appropriate, a complete sentence, minimally grammatically correct (especially Subject + verb), and basically phonologically intelligible, for a maximum of 40 points. All material had been studied and practiced in class, on audiotape and videotape. All pictures came from the books used in the course.
