Technology Boot Camp Workshops Presented by Marsha Chan
Multimedia for You
3:45-3:45 p.m.
Thursday, January 27, 2011
Mission College Main Building Room E2-101
You’ve viewed video clips in your publisher’s course materials and on Youtube, TeacherTube and other websites. You may have created your own video clips for fun and emailed them to your friends. Your skills include web browsing and searching; navigating in Angel; basic PowerPoint; using a camera (or other recording device) and downloading recordings to your computer.
In this session, you will
- View video clips of the presenter and students, both teacher-made and student-made, in the context of courses and learning objectives.
- Consider the pedagogical attributes of video clips that can enable students to achieve a learning objective for course.
- Observe as video is captured on a Macintosh laptop and simple edits are made.
- Discuss places to look for existing video clips.
- Recognize places to store your video (your hard drive, AngelLearning, Mission College website, Youtube, and other web servers).
- Identify ways to display a video to students (PowerPoint, Angel, YouTube, Facebook, blogs)
- Become aware of video file formats, length, and their impact on workflow and access.
- Outline the steps to follow to create your video learning object.
- Capture video on a laptop webcam, digital camera or other device.
- Observe how to create a YouTube channel, upload a video clip, enter a title and description, and make other setting choices.
Bring an idea for a short video clip you’d like to make for your class.
To view demos, we’ll have access to the web on PCs in a lab.
If you wish to record video, bring your own laptop computer with webcam, digital camera, camcorder, iPhone, or Flip Camera, as well as cables for an external device to connect to a computer and a manual. To use a pre-recorded video clip, bring a file on a USB flash drive, CD, or recording device.
Participants should enroll in Marsha’s Technology Boot Camp Angel Group.
