Analysis of Compound Sentences
Answer Key
The compound sentences below have been analyzed using the symbols

to identify the parts of each sentence, as follows:
- There are brackets [ ] around the subject.
- There are underscores _ _around the verb.
- There are parentheses ( ) around each prepositional phrase.
- There is an asterisk after a coordinating conjunction that
joins simple sentences.
Exercise C: Compound Sentences
1. [Stonehenge] _is_ a massive stone monument, now (in ruins)

circle (of rectangular stone columns.)
2. [Scholars] _have speculated_ (for years) (about Stonehenge),
