Challenging Scott Peterson's Alibi Answer Key

MODESTO Nov. 01, 2003

The prosecution hammered away at Scott Peterson's alibi Friday, questioning a string of witnesses. Scott Peterson's father, Lee Peterson, said his son never mentioned (had never mentioned) that he was planning (planned, had planned, had been planning) to take a fishing trip on the day that his wife disappeared. Lee Peterson testified that his son called him around the time that he told police that he was fishing (had been fishing), but he never said that's what he was doing. He and other witnesses also declared that Scott Peterson, who is accused of killing his wife, Laci, and their unborn son, never told (had never told) any of them he had purchased a boat to go fishing. Authorities say Scott Peterson used the boat instead to dump his wife's body. When a fellow officer asked Scott Peterson that evening what he was fishing (had been fishing) for, "he couldn't say." "Did the defendant ever tell you that he was fishing (had been fishing, was going to go fishing) at the Berkeley Marina?" Distaso questioned the elder Peterson. "No," the father replied.
