Classroom Behavior - Answer Key
Suggested paragraph:
- Since the American university system is based on class attendance,
most professors expect students to attend all classes and participate
in them. The first day of class is important; professors usually
begin with an overview of the work of the term, and they will
probably hand out a class outline and explain the course requirements.
If students are absent the first day, they may never understand
the professor's expectations and the requirements of a course.
These absent students may not know many things; nevertheless,
they are expected to attend all classes and make up all assignments.
Coming to class on time is also expected because professors may
change assignments at the beginning of class, and they often
answer questions at the beginning of class. Students may not
realize that professors notice late students and may interpret
lateness as a lack of interest. Being prepared for class is also
important; some students do not bring their paper, pens or textbooks
to class. These are usually the same students who have not done
their homework. Professors also expect students to do homework
that may take two or three hours a night for each class. ln addition,
university professors are displeased when students whisper to
each other, get up to sharpen a pencil, or walk out of the classroom
during class. Attending all classes, doing the assignments, and
behaving appropriately in class are expected; these reveal a
student's interest and maturity.
