The following questions will help you review the five major themes of geography and connect the themes to the geography that you are familiar with. These types of questions may be on a test.
Prepare answers to these questions. Then discuss them with a group of three or four students.

1. LOCATION: Where is your school located? (You can answer with relative location or absolute location.)

2. LOCATION: Where is your home located? (You can answer with relative location or absolute location.)

3. PLACE: What is the name of the place where you live now? ___________________
a. Describe one or more physical features of that place. (For example, physical setting – landforms, water – plants, animals, weather)

b. Describe one or more human features of that place. (For example, kind of people, language, art, architecture)

4. PLACE: Choose one place that is different from the place in #3: your place of origin or another place that you know very well. What is the name of that place? ___________________
a. Describe one or more physical features of that place. (For example, physical setting – landforms, water – plants, animals, weather)

b. Describe one or more human features of that place. (For example, kind of people, language, art, architecture)


5. REGION: Choose two similar places that are nearby (two cities, two areas, two states, two countries). What are the names of those places? ______________________________________
Describe two or three characteristics that these two places share with each other. (For example, political division, climate, language, or religion)

6. (Movement) Give two examples of how you travel from one place to another.

7. (Movement) Name two or three ways that you spread information and ideas.

8. (Human-Environment Interaction) Choose a place and write it here. ________________
Name two ways that people in that place have affected their environment. Is the effect positive or negative?

9. (Human-Environment Interaction) Choose a place and write it here. ________________
Name two ways that the environment has affected the people in that place. Is the effect positive or negative?
